With a mission to help our community stay active and support preventative health, we were proud to start our very own walking group this summer at Coda Pharmacy, Coda’s Walk & Talk.
What started as a small team walk around Pevensey Castle has grown into a really exciting community initiative, with monthly walks taking place across our local area.
How It All Started
The idea behind Coda Walk & Talk is we want to give people an opportunity to get outside, get moving and spend some time with other people from the community. Our walks are open to everyone, whatever your age or fitness level, and they are always completely free to join.
Since starting, we’ve explored some of the best spots around Eastbourne, including the seafront, Sovereign Harbour and the famous Beachy Head. We’re also always looking for new places to visit, so each walk gives us something different to look forward to.
Our very first walk took place at the beginning of summer and started at Holywell on Eastbourne seafront. We enjoyed a gentle 4km walk along the seafront. Halfway through the walk, we stopped at Bistro Pierre for some refreshments from their shack before continuing back along the seafront.
For our first ever walk, we were absolutely thrilled with the turnout. It was brilliant to see so many people from the local community come along and support something that was completely new. We had a mixture of familiar faces, new faces and people who had simply seen the walk and decided to come along and give it a go.
Growing With Every Walk
The following month, we started at the opposite end of the seafront and were really pleased to see our attendance grow even more. We made our way along the beach before finishing at The Beach Deck, giving everyone the chance to grab some refreshments and spend some time together after the walk.
Our next walk took us up to Beachy Head, where we were thrilled to be joined by the Beachy Head Ambassadors. Anna, one of the amazing Beachy Head Ambassadors, joined us for the walk and gave us a brilliant talk about the history of Beachy Head. It was a great addition to the evening and gave everyone the chance to learn a little more about one of our most famous local landmarks.
Despite the rain, we had our biggest turnout yet. The weather certainly didn’t put everyone off, and we were even lucky enough to see a lovely sunset towards the end of the walk.
Exploring Sovereign Harbour
Our most recent Coda Walk & Talk was hosted along Eastbourne Sovereign Harbour as the sun began to set. It was lovely to see some of our regular walkers return, as well as welcoming some new faces to the group.
One of our favourite things about Coda’s Walk & Talk has been watching the group grow with every walk. It’s not just about getting your steps in, it’s about having a reason to get out of the house, meeting people, discovering new places and enjoying our local area together.
Join Us for Our Next Walk
We’re really excited for our next walk, which is coming up this month.
This time, we’re heading back to where it all began for our next walk at Holywell on Eastbourne seafront.
We’ll be taking a light 4km stroll from Bistro Pierre down towards Holywell Chalets before making our way back to the Bistro for some refreshments.
With the evenings getting a little chillier, we suspect a few hot chocolates might be on the order!
Date: Thursday 29th October
Walk: 18:00 to 19:45
Route: Holywell, Eastbourne, 4km
Meeting Point: Bistro Pierre, Eastbourne Seafront
As always, the walk is completely free and everyone is welcome to join us. Whether you’ve been on every walk since the beginning or this will be your first time, we’d love to see you there.
Coda Walk & Talk Loyalty Cards
We’ve also introduced something new for our regular walkers.
To celebrate everyone who keeps coming along and supporting Coda’s Walk & Talk, we’ve launched our Coda Walk & Talk Loyalty Cards. Every time you join us for a walk, you’ll receive a stamp on your loyalty card. As you collect your stamps, you’ll be able to unlock some great rewards from local businesses who are supporting our walking group.
Rewards currently include discounted beauty treatments at Ellie’s Beauty Room, savings on gym memberships at Snap Fitness Eastbourne, money off dining at Cali Fusion Eastbourne and a free class at Hotpod Yoga Eastbourne.
We’re really proud of how our Walk & Talk has grown since that first small team walk around Pevensey Castle. What started as a simple idea has quickly become something that we look forward to every month, and it’s been fantastic to see our local community get behind it. We’re excited to keep the walks going throughout the autumn and winter and see where the next few months take us.
If you’ve been thinking about joining us, we would love to see you there! You can find all the details in our Facebook community group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/4541151566211960/
