SASBAH

I’d like to begin this newsletter by shining a spotlight on one of the two charities that will benefit from this year’s Eastbourne Community Awards.

As many of you will know, all proceeds from the Awards are being donated to St Wilfrid’s Hospice and SASBAH. While St Wilfrid’s Hospice is widely recognised, some of you may be wondering: who are SASBAH?

SASBAH is a local Eastbourne-based charity supporting over 1,000 people across Sussex who are affected by disability. Operating from The JPK Hub in Church Street, Old Town, the organisation has become a vital part of the community. Many of you may already know Rom, their Chief Executive.

So, What Does SASBAH do?

They work closely with local businesses to provide meaningful work experience for people with disabilities, with members actively contributing in a welcoming and positive office environment every weekday.

They offer a wide range of social and digital inclusion activities, helping individuals stay connected and engaged.

They organise holidays for the SASBAH community, providing not only memorable experiences for members but also valuable respite for families and carers.

Their advisory service offers guidance and advocacy on important issues such as benefits, relationships, home adaptations, care provision, and everyday living, support that has never been more important.

They run a weekly social group every Wednesday evening, along with additional support groups across Sussex.

For over 60 years, SASBAH has created a warm, family-like environment, embracing and empowering individuals who might otherwise feel disadvantaged.

And this is only a snapshot of the incredible work they do.

If you’d like to learn more or see their work first-hand, you’re warmly invited to get in touch with Rom at [email protected] to arrange a visit.
