Recently, myself and Chris had the opportunity to head over to Litlington to visit Justin Wright, co-founder of Wolo Foundation and it was nothing short of inspiring.
Wolo foundation is a charity set up to offer help, services and practical advice to families living in Sussex, affected by cancer. They work with local businesses and communities to offer families a range of services to support them through their diagnosis, treatment and beyond.
Wolo Foundation was originally founded in Seaford by Justin and his wife, Fler, following their own experience with a cancer diagnosis. During that difficult time, they realised there was a lack of support available for families like theirs. Determined to ensure others wouldn’t face the same challenges alone, they launched Wolo in March 2020. Wolo- short for "We Only Live Once"- reflects their core belief:‘to make the most of each day, life is a blessing and we need to enjoy doing the things we love, with the ones we love.’
Justin said, “We turned 5 two weeks ago, which is incredible. We support 196 families to date with over 300 children across the county. Every family is different, every cancer diagnosis is different, it doesn't define who you are.”
How Wolo Supports Families
Wolo offers a wide range of support to help families navigate the challenges of cancer. From therapy sessions to vital resources and equipment- whether that’s medical supplies or even something like a new oven- they aim to make everyday life a little easier. They also provide access to practical services such as legal advice, childcare, cleaning, and even driving lessons. On top of that, Wolo brings local families together by creating regular opportunities to chat, connect, and share experiences with others going through their own cancer journey.

Wolo Events
Wolo runs a variety of events throughout the year, including their ongoing Wolo Wellness programme- designed to raise awareness about the connection between physical health and mental wellbeing. Some of their past events have included weekly yoga sessions, wellness walks and runs, ice baths, sauna and breathwork experiences, and a “Communi-tea” meet-up. Looking ahead, don’t miss their annual Wolo Fest, happening on the 6th of September!
“We have created this community within Wolo where we all flourish together. It's a space where everyone can come together and there isn't any sadness, we try to enjoy the friends we have and the things we do and the people around us. Wolo is having a massive impact.”

Wolo Challenges
Beyond their wellness events, Wolo also organises a range of exciting challenges that anyone can take part in- offering unique opportunities to support a great cause while pushing personal limits. Coming up, participants can look forward to the Rathfinny Run, the Wolo Wing Walk, and the Wolo Africa Adventure Challenge.
In partnership with Africa Wild Trails, Wolo is offering a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Africa, where challengers will take on an adventure across Namibia and Botswana. This experience not only helps raise vital funds for Wolo’s work, but also provides a powerful mental health boost- combining the benefits of nature, sunlight, adventure, and social connection. Whether you're looking to step out of your comfort zone or simply support a meaningful cause, Wolo's challenges offer something truly special.
“On a previous trip to Africa we helped to release a couple of giraffes, one was named after dear Logan- a young boy that we lost. It's all GPS and tracked so there's a giraffe out there named after him, his favourite animal. There is another one named Wolo. We raised over £40,000 pounds which was incredible.”
